Loan request service vs lender: what "not a lender" means

Guide · Updated November 2026

A lender decides whether to lend, sets the terms and funds the loan. A loan request service does none of those things: it carries your request to lenders who make their own decisions. EasyPaychex is the second kind, and knowing the difference tells you who to expect to hear from and what you have actually agreed to.

What a lender does

A lender holds the money. It reviews your information, decides whether to make an offer, writes the rate, fees and repayment dates into a loan agreement, funds your account if you accept, and collects repayment. It is the business named on your Truth in Lending disclosure, and the one you contact if something about the loan changes.

What EasyPaychex does

EasyPaychex is a loan request service. You fill in one request for $100 to $5,000, once, on your phone. That request is carried to a network of lenders and lending partners. Each lender reads it on its own terms and decides for itself whether to respond with an offer. EasyPaychex does not approve or deny anything, does not set rates and does not move money. It is paid by lenders when it introduces a borrower, and that payment does not change the terms a lender offers you.

The practical difference shows up in three places:

What you agree to when you send a request

Sending a request means a few specific things, and they are worth reading rather than guessing at:

What you are not agreeing to

You are not agreeing to borrow. You are not agreeing to accept any particular offer, or any offer at all. You are not agreeing to a rate, a fee or a repayment date until you sign a specific lender's agreement, and that agreement must show you those numbers first. If the terms do not fit the week, you can close the page with nothing owed.

How to read an offer when one arrives

Look for four things before anything else: the amount being offered, which may be less than you asked for; the APR and the total cost in dollars; the repayment dates and whether they line up with your pay dates; and the lender's name and contact details. Every one of those should be in writing before you agree. If an offer arrives without them, ask, or pass.

Why use a request service at all

Because one description of your situation reaches several lenders, each weighing income, banking history and state rules in its own way. Going lender by lender means retyping the same facts and collecting a separate decision each time. A single request gives several lenders the same look at once, and leaves the choice with you. Some lenders fund as soon as the next business day, if approved, though timing always belongs to the lender.

Questions people ask

Will EasyPaychex ever ask me for a payment?

No. The service is free to use. Any repayment goes to the lender you chose, under the agreement you signed with that lender.

Can I stop my information being shared later?

You can opt out of marketing and of the sale or sharing of your information through the Unsubscribe and Do Not Sell pages linked in the footer. Requests already sent to lenders are governed by those lenders' own policies.

Is a loan request service the same as a broker?

No. A broker typically negotiates on your behalf and may charge you. EasyPaychex does not negotiate, does not represent any lender, and does not charge you.

Next step

If the shape fits, the request is a few minutes on a phone. It is free to send, and nothing is signed until you choose a lender's offer.
